Math/Science Coaching Options (Ways to Help Teachers)
- Develop lesson plans with teachers.
- Help co-teach a lesson.
- Provide a coach-developed lesson plan.
- Co-observe another teacher and discuss afterward.
- Observe the teacher teaching a lesson. Afterward, use non-evaluative language and "Accountable Talk" to reflect and plan.
- Demonstrate a lesson for the teacher. Conference before and reflect after the lesson.
- Make materials for a lesson with the teacher.
- Teach or demonstrate a new program/strategy for the teacher. Support the teacher as s/he attempts to implement.
- Examine examples of student work or data with the teacher, reflect and plan with the teacher.
- Give the teacher a variety of suggestions for achieving a goal.
- Provide resources and handouts for the teacher.
- Brainstorm, with the teacher, possible solutions to a problem or issue.
- Share effective strategies with which the math specialist has experience.
- Arrange for the teacher to observe another teacher.
- Provide support (an extra pair of hands) in the classroom for a teacher attempting to implement small group work or differentiation strategies.
